FULL GOSPEL MISSION
887 W. Spruce Ave., Ravenna, OH 44266
Rev. Barbara A. Davis, Pastor
Pastors Pen, August 4, 2013....Last year a former physics
and chemistry teacher in Orwigsburg, PA, came up with a 250-word explanation of
Christianity. And Tom Ritter is a somewhat unlikely person to do this. Although
he is a Christian, he started out as an agnostic, has a skeptical attitude and
thinks independently. In short, as his website says, "Tom Ritter had to
examine almost every aspect of Christianity logically and skeptically before he
would accept it and [be able to] explain it in plain language." His years
of teaching high school undoubtedly impressed upon him the need to keep it
simple.
God created man to be His friend. .........God has other
friends. The angels, but angels do not have our free will. The Trinity also
make good company, but though They have different jobs, The Trinity think
exactly alike. They are, after all, one Being.
This friendship, like any other, requires a conscious effort
from both parties. God wants man to accept the hand of friendship freely, which
means he can also refuse it. In short, He had to give man a free will, our
tendency to think ourselves in charge, our human pride. If we accept it, this
friendship lasts for eternity, a condition we call heaven. If we refuse this
hand of friendship, however, because we are immortal, we exist forever in a
state of isolation we call hell.
God also had to do something to show us how much He wanted
that friendship and that this friendship was His doing, not ours. That
‘something' was the voluntary death on the cross of Jesus, One of the Trinity
and part of Himself. We commit a lot of sins and cannot atone for most of
these. For example, suppose you kill someone. How can you ever atone to that
man's family, let alone the victim? Our acceptance of Jesus' Atonement pays for
this sin and worse in God's eyes.
The payment also puts us in God's debt, which is precisely
where He wants us, because God has important jobs and satisfying relationships
for everyone who accepts this hand of friendship.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have
everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the
world, but that the world through Him might be saved" (John 3:16-17).

Ten Signs You May Not Be Reading Your Bible Enough
1.You open up your Bible in church and a huge dust cloud
rises.
2. You think Abraham, Isaac & Jacob may have had a few
hit songs during the 60s.
3. You open to the Gospel of Luke and a WWII Savings Bond
falls out.
4. Your favorite Old Testament patriarch is Hercules.
5. A small family of woodchucks has taken up residence in
the Psalms of your Bible.
6. You become frustrated because Charlton Heston isn't
listed in either the Concordance or the Table of Contents.
7. Catching the kids reading the Song of Solomon, you
demand: "Who gave you this stuff?"
8.You think the Minor Prophets worked in the quarries.
9.You keep falling for it every time when Pastor tells you
to turn to Second Opinions.
10.The kids keep asking too many questions about your usual
bedtime story: "Jonah the Shepherd Boy and His Ark of Many Colors."

SCHOOL STARTS IN RAVENNA AUGUST 27–are our children ready to
go back and be God’s light in the world?
Thank God Sis. Susan is out of the hospital......
Update: Thank you trim crew. On Tuesday Cody, Juanita,
Pauline, and Bill painted the trim for the fellowship hall. On Wednesday Rev.
Jack Murphy, his nephew Michael, Cody, Dale and Pauline cut an put up about 90%
of the trim. The fellowship hall is starting to come together.
The new carpet has been ordered, and by a great miracle, we
were given a donation from Sister Mary daughter and son in law to pay for the
balance due. God is so good. The manufacture says it should all be in and done
by the end of August. It looks like it is all coming together to make our hall
a beautiful place to fellowship in.
A nice tribute: by Rhonda Orterga: to Ron
Baumgartner....This one is for my Dad...to every person who's ever mocked made
fun of or judged him because of his love for God...and he'll be the first to
tell you he's not perfect and he's made mistakes...and he'll prolly make
more...but I can tell you he would give this man food, invite him to church, be
a witness, buy him some shoes give him a hot shower and a nights sleep under
his roof and pay for a bus ticket out of town to get out of the desert
heat...and so, to me it's no wonder reading this made me cry. I'm proud of my
dad and I know that no matter how many times his heart has been broken down
here by the mean words people have said or the way ones he loves has treated
him. He'll get his reward. For the record, I'd take the guy I know over the guy
he was who drank before he let God into his life any day....Thanks dad, for
being a good example. I'm proud of you, and I love you!!!
