Put On The Righteousness Of Christ

BIBLE MEDITATION:  “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering.” Colossians 3:12

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
Sometimes people will ask if I’m a preacher.

How do they know I’m a preacher before I’ve said anything “spiritual”?

I don’t want them to know that I am a preacher by the way I look. Now, I’m not ashamed that I’m a preacher, but I think a preacher ought to dress and act so that nobody will suspect he’s a preacher. We ought to be transparent vessels of the Lord’s anointing.

We’re not posturing, posing, or somehow going through life trying to look holy or trying to act holy. We just simply are what we are by the grace of God.

ACTION POINT:
What does your outer appearance say about who you are in Christ? Dress in His robes of righteousness and His countenance of glory today.

"Why Doesn't God Obliterate Evil?"

BIBLE MEDITATION:   “Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine.” 1 Chronicles 29:11

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
Have you ever wondered why God doesn’t obliterate the devil and eradicate all sin? If God destroyed evil, God would destroy every opportunity for choice. And if God were to destroy every opportunity for choice, then God would destroy every opportunity for love. Therefore, God would destroy the highest good. For God to destroy evil would be evil.

God doesn’t destroy evil, instead God defeats evil. How? Calvary and the resurrection! God turns every hurt into a hallelujah. Every defeat into victory!

ACTION POINT:
Spend some time today thinking about heaven and the glorious reunion you’re going to have with Him one day.

Train Up A Child

Train Up A Child

BIBLE MEDITATION: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
A little boy was riding around and around the block. A man asked him, “What are you doing?”

“I’m running away from home,” he said.

“But you’re just going around and around the block,” said the man.

The little boy responded, “That’s because my mom won’t let me cross the street!”

Even in the earliest ages, there can be restraint in the heart of a child because of godly training by his or her parents. The only way I ever learned to play football was on the training field. The classroom wasn’t enough. Parents must provide training and education for the lessons of life to be ingrained in their children.

ACTION POINT:
Has God given you the divine responsibility of parenthood? Then spend some time this week to train your child in one area of godly living.

Believing In The Living God

Believing In The Living God

BIBLE MEDITATION:   “If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which He hath testified of His Son.” 1 John 5:9

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
I’ve been asked, “Pastor Rogers, do you expect me to believe in Jesus Christ just because your book says that He lived? That’s not enough for me.”

I agree. You need something else. If you want to know who Jesus Christ is, ask the Holy Spirit.

God says, “If you want to believe, I will help you to understand and to know that these things are true.”

Don’t tell me that you cannot believe. You may refuse to believe, but I will tell you this. If you want to believe in Jesus Christ and if you seek Truth, God the Holy Spirit will speak to you and confirm to you that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Read Deuteronomy 4:29—
“But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find Him, if thou seek Him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.”

ACTION POINT:
Do you want to know the living God? He is there if you seek Him with all your heart.

Working Together In Unity

Working Together In Unity

BIBLE MEDITATION:   “For we are laborers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.” 1 Corinthians 3:9

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
How powerful it is when we work together in unity! I was reading about how Canadian geese always fly in a “V” formation. Have you ever wondered why? Because the lead goose is moving the wind resistance for the rest of them. So while he is flapping real hard, the rest of them are cruising. After awhile, the lead goose gets tired and he falls back and the next goose moves up.

Do you know what scientists have discovered in the wind tunnel experiments? That geese flying in a “V” formation can fly 72% farther than one goose could fly by himself. Now who taught them to do that? God did.

ACTION POINT:
What are you trying to do by yourself that could be more efficiently accomplished when the task is shared?

FULL GOSPEL MISSION
887 W. Spruce Avenue, Ravenna, OH  44266
Rev. Barbara A. Davis, Pastor

June 24, 2012 Pastors Pen: HAPPY KIDS DAY 2012----Brenda Foltz of Princeton, MN was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens.

'Great', she thought. 'Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry.' She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there.

She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she might find her contact lens. When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse 'The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth.'

She thought, 'Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me.'
Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, 'Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?'

Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it!
The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, 'Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You.'
I think it would do all of us some good to say, 'God, I don't know why You want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if You want me to carry it, I will.'

God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.
Yes, I do love GOD. He is my source of existence and my Savior. He keeps me functioning each and every day. Without Him, I am nothing, but with Him...I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13)

Should We Bring Children Into Such a Chaotic World?

Should We Bring Children Into Such a Chaotic World?

BIBLE MEDITATION:   “As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.” Psalm 127:4-5

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
I would be afraid to bring children into this world if I did not know God. But because I know God, I am free to encourage you to have children.

Don’t ever let the devil intimidate you. I’ve had couples ask me, “Pastor Rogers, the world is so dangerous today, do you think we ought to have children?”

I respond with a hearty “Yes!”

God’s people are the ones who ought to be bringing a godly seed into this world. What does the world need? Jesus. How are they going to hear if the light goes out?

ACTION POINT:
Are you contemplating having children? Do you know someone who is? Encourage them with this devotional today.

God’s Plan of Restoration for Your Life

God’s Plan of Restoration for Your Life

BIBLE MEDITATION: “He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.” Job 33:28

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
On the night of Jesus’ arrest, Peter denied Jesus — three times! In spite of Peter’s lack of loyalty, Jesus extended an invitation of mercy to him and said, “Come and dine.”

There on the shores of the Sea of Galilee after His resurrection, Jesus came to Peter and prepared a table of restoration. Can you imagine what was going through Peter’s mind? Guilt and gladness, fear and fascination, wonder and worship — a kaleidoscope of emotions! He could not believe that he was being invited to the table of the One he had deserted just days before. And not only was he being invited but restored!

The depth of Jesus’ covenant love is not exhausted when we sin. There is forgiveness and restoration.

ACTION POINT:
Read this account of restoration in John 21:4-19. Rejoice over God’s plan of restoration for your life.

Without Even Saying A Word

Without Even Saying A Word

BIBLE MEDITATION:   “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go.” Psalm 32:8

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
I was talking to my son one day, and he reminded me of something that happened when he was a little boy. He said, “Dad, I was sitting in church, and you looked at me, and I knew I was going to get a whipping when I got home.”

If you’re married, you know how your spouse can give you that look that says, “Whatever you’re talking about — stop!” That’s the intimate relationship that people who know one another well establish. You’re to have such an intimate relationship with God that He can just look at you and your heart is touched.

ACTION POINT:
Throughout the day today, think of the eye of the Lord upon you...allow this to direct your steps and give you courage.

Faithful in Your Words

Faithful in Your Words

BIBLE MEDITATION: “But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.” – James 5:12

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
In June we take time to focus on fathers, and I’ve discovered in talking with teenagers that many of them harbor bitterness and resentment. Much of that resentment is directed toward their fathers over the serious matter of broken promises.

If you’re a dad who wants to restore your relationship with your teenager, one of the best things you can do is to remember those broken promises. Then go and say to them with a remorseful spirit, “I’ve asked God to forgive me, and I want you to forgive me.” Then ask this question, “Have I ever made a promise to you that I’ve failed to keep? If so, I want you to tell me because I want to repent. I want you to believe that your dad is a faithful man.”

ACTION POINT:
Are you a man of your word? If not, start fresh today and make a commitment that you will stand behind your word.

Our Abba Father

Our Abba Father

BIBLE MEDITATION:   “And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.” Galatians 4:6

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
Do you know what “Abba” means?  It means “Daddy Father.” Have you ever thought about God as your Daddy? When Jesus taught us to pray “Our Father” in Matthew 6:9, the same word in Greek is the word “Pater” – “Abba Father.”

American children say, “Da-da.”  But in the Middle East they say, “Abba - Abba.” Jesus says that we can call the great God of the universe “Daddy.”

I’m so glad that our Heavenly Father never gets too busy running this universe and commanding the angels that He forgets us. He wants to be with you like there is no one else on earth and nothing else for Him to do.

ACTION POINT:
Do you wish you had a hug right now? You can crawl up into the lap of your Daddy Father, and He has nothing better to do than to give you a hug.

A Challenge for Fathers

A Challenge for Fathers

BIBLE MEDITATION: “Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders.” Proverbs 31:23

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
Once a year we celebrate fathers. Maybe you are one. Let me give you a challenge. One father said,

“If I had it to do all over again, I’d love my wife more in front of my children. I’d laugh with my children more. I’d listen more, even to the youngest child. I’d be more honest about my own weaknesses and stop pretending perfection. I would pray differently for my children. I would be more encouraging and bestow more praise. And finally, if I had it to do all over again, I would use every ordinary thing that happened in every ordinary day to point them to God.”

Praise God for the impact of godly fathers in our lives!

ACTION POINT:
If there’s going to be music in marriage, the dad has to be the leader of the band. Celebrate the dad in your life today!

June 10. 2012 Pastors Pen: God's Boxes I have in my hands two boxes,
Which God gave me to hold.  He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black box, And all your joys in the gold."  I heeded His words, and in the two boxes, Both my joys and sorrows I stored, But though the gold became heavier each day, The black was as light as before.  With curiosity, I opened the black, I wanted to find out why, And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole, Which my sorrows had fallen out by.

I showed the hole to God, and mused, "I wonder where my sorrows could be!"  He smiled a gentle smile and said, "My child, they're all here with me.." I asked God, why He gave me the boxes, Why the gold and the black with the hole? "My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings, The black is for you to let go." We should consider all of our friends a blessing.
Share this with a friend today just to let them know you are thinking of them and that they are a joy in your life. A ball is a circle, no beginning, no end.
It keeps us together like our Circle of Friends. But the treasure inside for you to see, Is the treasure of friendship you've granted to me.

God bless you all is my prayer today, I'm honored to call you "friend";
I pray God will keep you safe, Until we write or see each other again!
Distance and time may separate us But friendship and memories won't
