Faith Without Works Is Dead

BIBLE MEDITATION:
“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” James 2:26

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
When you ask God for something, do you just sit back and do nothing and say, “Well, I’m going to show my faith by doing nothing.” To the contrary, you will show your faith by doing something.

For faith without works is what? Dead! (see James 2:20) Do you want a house? Pray for it. Then say “Amen” with a hammer and saw. Do you want a wife? Pray for one. Then go shave, put on some cologne, learn some manners, and learn how to be thoughtful and loving.

ACTION POINT:
What have you been praying earnestly about the last week? What is your heart’s desire? Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how you can put feet to that prayer. Then, walk the talk!

Gratitude

We receive far more from our Heavenly Father than we can ever fully understand. Take a moment, watch the video and see if you agree.

Thank you, Lord God, for all You've given us yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Amen.

Names of God

For unto us a child is born, and unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The prince of Peace– Isaiah 9:6

This Old Testament prophecy describes our Savior Jesus Christ in beautiful terms. His name would be called Wonderful. He has always been wonderful for He is the Ancient of Days and it was by Him that the world was created. He is God and He became a man. His virgin birth was wonderful. His life was wonderful. His death and resurrection were wonderful.

He is wonderful now. He is drawing men to Him and He is interceding for His people. And He shall be wonderful. He is coming back some day and His appearance will be wonderful. Then the redeemed host will praise Him forever as they stand in His presence and understand as never before that He is Wonderful!

When the day-to-day struggles of life are pressing us down and it seems there is nothing about our present circumstances that brings us joy, what a blessing to focus our attention on our wonderful Savior. Jesus called His disciples friends and when we remember that He is our wonderful friend, one that never leaves us or forsakes us, we can find reason to rejoice in the most difficult of circumstances.

Who You Are In Christ

BIBLE MEDITATION:
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
The key to living a victorious Christian life is to discover who you are in Christ. Many Christians have never discovered this. They remind me of the man who had an identity problem and an energy crisis at the same time. He didn’t know who he was and he was too tired to find out.

God doesn’t work from the outside in. He works from the inside out. God doesn’t modify our behavior in order to change us. He changes us in order to modify our behavior.

You’re never going to purify the water by painting the pump. That’s legalism, and that’s a dead end to discovering who you are in Christ.

ACTION POINT:
Take God’s Word and find the phrase “in Christ.” As you find phrases that apply to your life, write those down. Begin with phrases such as “no condemnation” now that you are “in Christ.”

Ministers Of Deception

BIBLE MEDITATION:
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.” 2 Timothy 4:3

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
Did you know Satan has put his ministers all across America? On Sunday, people will come down and sit in a service, and the man in the pulpit will look like a minister, but he will be a minister of Satan. Isn’t that frightening? You need to understand that Satan is not against religion. He’s always wanted to be like God. His temptation to you is not to be ungodly, but to try to be like God, but in Satan’s way. Satan is the master of deception.

Matthew 24:24 says, if it were possible, he would deceive the very elect. That’s the reason we have to be discerners of truth.

ACTION POINT:
This Sunday, don’t just sit and soak in the service. Test the message against the Word of God and apply it to your life.

The Value Of A Soul

BIBLE MEDITATION:
“Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold...but with the precious blood of Christ.” 1 Peter 1:18-19

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
I was talking to a man who sold real estate and asked him, “What determines the worth of a piece of property?”

He said, “What a person is willing to pay for it.”

In other words, it doesn’t matter how much you paid for it yourself. It’s what another person is willing to pay to have it for himself or herself.

That makes me want to shout! You and I must be worth something if Jesus would pay His life to have us for His own. Jesus is the proof of how much we’re worth.

ACTION POINT:
Do you know how much you weigh? Call a jeweler or a bank today and ask how much your weight is worth in gold. Then realize there’s no comparison to your worth in blood … the blood of Jesus Christ.

Call to Worship

Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness– Psalm 29:2

God commands that we worship Him, giving Him the praise that is due His name. The law God gave through Moses forbids the people to worship any other god.  When Jesus replied to Satan as He was tempted in the wilderness He said, “For it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” In His conversation at Jacob’s well He said that the Father would have us to worship Him in spirit and in truth.

But from the beginning man has often come short of true worship.  He sometimes draws near with his words while his heart is far from God. He commits to rituals and traditions but fails to truly submit to the one living God.  True worship involves not only acknowledging the greatness of God but bowing before Him, submitting your mind and your will to Him.

The Apostle John wrote, “Little children, keep yourselves from idols.”  May we today cast down any idol which we may have allowed into our heart, humble ourselves before our God Whose voice is powerful and full of majesty and give Him the glory due to His name.

A Legacy Of Love

BIBLE MEDITATION:
“His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.” Psalm 112:2

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
A woman came to her pastor and said, “When should I start the religious training of my child? When will he be old enough? Is it too early to start at six years of age?” The pastor said, “No, that’s too late.” She said, “Well how about six months?” He said, “That’s too late.” She said, “Then when should I start?” He said, “With his grandparents.”

We can live for our grandchildren; we can live for our great-grandchildren. The greatest gift you can give your children is to teach them to worship the Lord, to love the Lord, and to serve the Lord at any age.

ACTION POINT:
If you are a grandparent, share what God has taught you about His grace and faithfulness in your life. And share what God has taught you about worshipping Him and serving others.
